This Technical Certificate unit relates to fenestration installation and surveying activities and is based upon the national occupational standards unit that covers the preparation for the installation of glass supporting systems. Frames and units primarily refer to replacement windows and doors or curtain walling systems. The candidate has to ensure that the equipment and materials are available and that they are suitable for the installation work. The safety of the equipment has to be checked, the site prepared and access to it restricted. Components and materials also have to be checked and any defects or outdated materials identified. All materials have to be stored safely. The work schedule has to be checked with all relevant people, working areas clearly defined and all safety precautions taken. Damage to property has to be minimised.
