This Technical Certificate unit is based on the national occupational standards units which involves setting up and operation of glass manufacturing related equipment. The candidate uses the equipment to undertake production activities. The candidate is expected to be able to prepare the equipment for operation. The candidate has to monitor the equipment during operation and to identify any indications of malfunction or poor performance. In addition the candidate has to maintain the equipment, at least in the sense of keeping the equipment clean and clear from obstructions. It is not expected that the candidate will have to undertake routine or emergency maintenance of the kind carried out by maintenance engineers.
